That's been my character arc, as well. The turning point has been watching so many Trump supporters turn on Fox News because it finally said that the fantasy world it had created had gone too far. When they spilled into OAN and Newsmax because they were willing to keep pulling them into a fake universe, I decided that there was no hope, anymore.

The only thing I disagree with is the loss of international reputation and power. Other leaders see 47% of Americans supporting an authoritarian regime and they worry. If that scary minority gets power, again, they'll scrap everything just to do it (see, e.g., Paris Agreement, Iran Nuclear Deal, etc.). Having 2 countries would let the rest of the world treat the U.S. like the adult that it is, and the new seceding nation as the paste-eater that it is.
