I'm happy that you recognize that it's all about selling books and that the changes are being made purposefully and voluntarily by their copyright holders. The right-wing has manipulated this trend to claim that "woke" is censoring bad words because feelings are more important than free speech - another plank in their platform that being an asshole to others is a good thing and peak American.
Personally, I think the solution is simple: Don't like it, buy the older edition. It still exists. That's what I'm going to do, because I understand that times were different.
I also think that we're going to see more copyright holders of dead authors jump on this trend. The goal, after all, is to sell more books and look at all this free marketing they get for doing it!
